"Who would have thought that the Berlin Wall would fall? Why shouldn't I then be able to change too?" says Ramona, one of the four protagonists.

For two years Kristina Konrad and Graciela Salsamendi filmed fragments from the lives of four women at the edge of a sleepy town near Montevideo, Uruguay.

The extremely hard economic conditions have a huge effect on the lives of the women. Everyday life with lots of children, their relationships to their husbands, who hardly give them any support and understanding. On the contrary; they are to blame for much pain and suffering.

However, the women seem always prepared to show understanding, to forgive, to believe that their relationships have hope, when the husbands once again promise a paradise on earth.
